THE 75th anniversary of the Arandora Star tragedy is being marked by a Welsh-Italian a cappella concert of sacred music at St Peter’s Italian Church in Clerkenwell Road this Sunday evening.

Taking part in the concert is the Gwalia Welsh Male Voice Choir based at the London Welsh Centre and the Voci Dalla Rocca Italian Choir based at Breno, Brescia, in Lombardia.

The Arandora Star was sunk by a German U-Boat in controversial circumstances on July 2, 1940. More than 850 people, mostly interned Italian men being transported to Canada, lost their lives.

The shipping disaster is the subject of an exhibition that runs until October 31 at the Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre, Holborn Library, Theobalds Road, Holborn. See Sunday listings
