TOP-drawer jazz is back on the menu on a regular basis at Map Studio Cafe, Kentish Town, with some fine musicians hosting jam sessions providing playing opportunities for budding jazzers.

“Jazz is an expanse in music,” says Map’s Chris Townsend.

“It stays with the traditional sense of being alive and it make me feel good, very happy. It’s wide, it’s everything, everything is jazz.”

Among top jazz musicians playing regularly at Map is trumpeter Damon Brown. He’s launching his first Speakeasy Thursday on January 12 returning every other week thereafter. Joining him is Ben Hazelton on bass and pianist Bruno Heinen.

Afrobeat bebop saxophonist Bukky Leo has chosen Map as the new home for its long-established jam sessions underpinned by a strong rhythm section.

All instrumentalists and jazz vocalists are welcome to the regular Tuesday jams in the middle of each month.

Alongside regular jazz at Map are some fine one-off gigs together with calypso, funk and reggae sessions.
