YOU can’t help but be charmed by this documentary that has seen Apollo 13 director Ron Howard trawl through tons of archive material to bring us the Fab Four at a period in their lives when they smashed it globally.

Howard’s clever storytelling means we don’t just get to sit back and enjoy the music, the style and the uniqueness of the band. He has managed to put their success in breaking the US market in a way no British act had ever done before into an interesting historical context. The Liverpudlians’ responses to a crazy country at such a seminal, significant moment in 20th-century cultural history and the political backdrop that helped shape their roles as counter culture ambassadors gives the film more heft than just a sparkly take on the brilliant pop songs that defined a generation.
