YOUNG musicians from Camden have scooped a national music award for their performance at the National Festival of Youth Music finals.

The 20-strong Camden Youth Jazz Band emerged victorious in a contest against performers from all over the UK, at the Yamaha Music Awards in Birmingham earlier this month.

Band conductor Kate Hannent said: “There is a fantastic wealth of talent among the students and a real sense of team spirit. Each and every member committed and focused totally to produce an energetic and sophisticated performance.”

The band was praised by judges for “terrific ensemble playing” and hailed as “one of the most sophisticated and mature groups”.
